Author and composer Michael Hearst, along with his band, presents songs about Unusual Creatures, Extraordinary People, Curious Constructions, and Unconventional Vehicles geared to curious families, extraordinary children and their unusual friends. The show draws from Hearst's highly successful series of books, albums, and PBS series. It is an unusually-geeky A/V presentation (like a TED talk for kids!) of some of the most bizarre animals that roam the planet, odd and daring characters, vehicles you never knew existed, and buildings sometimes stranger than the Brooklyn Bridge - using such odd-ball instruments as theremin, claviola, and stylophone.
Michael Hearst is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and writer. His most recent project is a four-part book series, each book geared toward a grand theme: Unusual Creatures, Extraordinary People, Curious Constructions, and Unconventional Vehicles. Unusual Creatures was made into a PBS Digital series. His previous album, Songs For Ice Cream Trucks is currently blared by at least 50 ice cream trucks around the world. Songs For Fearful Flyers includes voicework by fearful flyer Whoopi Goldberg. Hearst has also composed soundtracks for the movies To Be Takei, Magic Camp, Chicken People, and The Untold Tales of Armistead Maupin among others. Hearst is also a founding member of the band One Ring Zero.
