A three-hour painting workshop using traditional oil techniques.
Join us for a special Cork + Canvas (aka sip and paint!) oil painting workshop in tribute to George Inness, the influential 19th-century American landscape artist from the Hudson River School movement. Inness was deeply inspired by the Catskill Mountains and Hudson Valley, and we’re excited to honor his legacy with this hands-on session, led by artist and instructor Tim Smith.
In this engaging three-hour long session Tim will guide you through an introduction to traditional oil painting. The session will explore historic techniques, the concept of fidelity to truth, the subjective response to the objective, and the cultural significance of painting as a way to communicate ideas.
This workshop is suitable for beginners, intermediate, or advanced artists interested in mastering traditional painting methods. Each participant will receive an art kit and a linen panel to work on. Any leftover supplies (excluding easels) are yours to keep! Wine and soft drinks are also included.
About the instructor: Tim Smith has been studying and practicing traditional oil painting techniques since 2004. He has exhibited his work in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. His current focus is exploring the landscape motif as a way to understand the deeper spiritual nature of the world around us.
The workshop will be held in the Lower Lounge space and is open to the public. Special rates are available for registered members and overnight guests. Please note that all cancellations must be made at least 48 hours in advance to qualify for a refund, as we may not be able to fill the spot on short notice.
