Join us for the Opening Reception on Saturday 7/19 from 11am - 12pm. RSVP required!
RSVP is required only for the Opening Reception, taking place on Saturday, July 19th from 11am - 12pm.
At INNESS, art, design, and nature come together to create a space for reflection, creativity, and connection—just as they did for our namesake, George Inness. This American landscape painter drew deep inspiration from the natural beauty of the Catskills and Hudson Valley, and we see that same spirit alive in the artists we’re showcasing this year and in the landscape around us.
We’re excited to join Upstate Art Weekend—a self-guided celebration of the vibrant arts scene across the Hudson Valley and Catskills. Covering 10 counties, UAW connects artists, organizations, and visitors for a weekend filled with discovery, creativity, and good vibes.
INNESS will be spotlighting works by an inspiring group of local artists: Olaf Breuning, Michael McGrath, Angela Witmore, Seth Alymer, and Tim Smith. From bold, eye-catching contemporary pieces to quietly reflective landscapes, their work perfectly captures the spirit and energy of this beautiful region.
Opening Reception:
Join us on Saturday from 11am to 12pm for a special reception where you can meet some of the artists and enjoy coffee, mimosas, and light bites. RSVP is required and space is limited. All ages are welcome, but children must be supervised at all times.
Exhibition Hours:
Art will be on display throughout the property—including the Gatehouse Bar, Restaurant Lounge, Hilltop, Spa and Private Dining Room—from 12pm to 5pm on Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20. This year’s featured artists include:
Olaf Breuning is a Swiss-born visual artist known for his witty and thought-provoking approach to contemporary art. Based in Kerhonkson, NY, Breuning works across a wide range of media including installation, sculpture, photography, and film. His work often draws from pop culture, infusing humor and playful surrealism into larger conversations about art and identity. Breuning’s work has been exhibited internationally at major institutions such as the Whitney Museum, Palais de Tokyo, Walker Art Center, Mori Museum, and Louisiana Museum, among many others. Notably, his large-scale sculpture Clouds was featured at the southern end of Central Park in 2014 and now resides at Art OMI in Ghent, NY. More information be found at http://www.olafbreuning.com.
Michael McGrath is a Rhinebeck-based artist whose work explores the tension between calm and unease in everyday life. Influenced by natural phenomena and personal memory, his narrative scenes often feature figures navigating ambiguous landscapes. McGrath works across painting, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media, and has exhibited internationally. He holds a BFA from Ithaca College. More information be found at https://mmcgrath.com/.
Angela Witmore is an artist living in New York’s Hudson Valley. Born in South Carolina and raised in Southeast Asia, Angela’s nomadic upbringing shapes her artistic vision. Her paintings reflect on the here and now, capturing ordinary moments and routines with a quiet humor and lightness of spirit. For more information about Angela’s work, follow: @angelawitmore.
Seth Aylmer is a native of Union, Maine, Seth Aylmer now lives with his family in a self-built home made of local timber, clay, and straw in the Hudson Valley. With a background in sculpture and painting from Queens College, Seth’s art is rooted in a deep connection to nature. His landscape-focused practice seeks to depict the invisible energies and quiet forces that shape our environment. For more information about Seth’s work, follow: @scaylmer.
Tim Smith's work explores the spiritual dimension of human experience—particularly where the material and immaterial worlds intersect. A classically trained oil painter, Tim studied under abstract painter Charlie Sheard in Australia and later at the Grand Central Academy of Art in New York. Now based in New Paltz, his paintings draw inspiration from religious texts and symbolic imagery, reflecting a deeply contemplative inquiry into creation, faith, and the human condition. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the property!
