INNESS Pro Bio
Jonah is an RSPA-certified teaching professional with experience coaching players of all ages and levels throughout the Hudson Valley since 2013, and a former Ulster County Open and Woodstock Open singles champion, as well as a current Woodstock Open doubles champion.
Inspired by the rivalry between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, Jonah transitioned from soccer and baseball to tennis in middle school. In high school, he went four consecutive years without losing a league match, captained his team, and competed in the New York State Championships. He also spent four years as a ball boy at the US Open, gaining a close-up view of the world’s top players.
An early adopter of pickleball, Jonah even built a court in his driveway during high school to play with family and friends (and keep the neighbors on their toes).
He went on to attend Brown University, where he played club tennis and rowed on the varsity crew team.
A Dutchess County native, Jonah has always gravitated back to the Hudson Valley. He grew up hiking the Shawangunk Ridge and Catskill Mountains, kayaking the Hudson and Delaware Rivers, and exploring the region’s roads and trails by bike.
When he’s not on the court or outdoors, Jonah enjoys learning languages, cultivating mushrooms, and frequenting local bakeries.
Coaching Philosophy
No two tennis players have identical strokes, and no two approach a match the same way. Each player’s game is a kind of fingerprint. Yet many players become frustrated trying to force their technique into a single “ideal” model—one that often feels unnatural or uncomfortable.
Rather than imposing a rigid blueprint, Jonah focuses on building strong fundamentals—emphasizing the commonalities shared by great players—while still allowing for individual variation. There is no single way to succeed, only the way that best fits the player.
His approach is centered on identifying each player’s natural strengths, refining technique, and developing a style that is both effective and authentic. The goal isn’t to make your game look like someone else’s—it’s to make it the best version of your own, all while having fun and working up a sweat.
