Back by popular demand! Chess Club is open to children who are already familiar with the chess pieces and know how to move them. They will learn how to open correctly, control the center of the board, castle, and get a checkmate. We want this to be super fun, but also an opportunity to learn something! Students must be able to maintain focus and remain seated for a chess class. If a student is being disruptive, they will receive two fair warnings before the parent is asked to pick up their child. We want to give all participants the best possible environment to learn from this class experience.

Dates: Wednesday 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, and 5/24. *Please note that you must register your child for each week that they wish to attend!

Please take note of the following:

  • The instructor will have all of the necessary equipment on hand.
  • It is recommended that you arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start of your lesson so you have time for a last minute visit to the restroom!
  • Caregivers must park in the main lot and walk down to the event barn space. We do not allow parking near the barn/tennis/pool area.
  • Jess will not be on site for the lesson. If you have any questions, please contact her at jess@inness.co.

Please note that after school chess is available to current INNESS members and we will also offer guest tickets when space allows. All cancellations must take place at least 24 hours in advance in order to qualify for a refund. We must reach a minimum number of sign-ups in order to host these classes.

More about the Instructor: Chess coach and teacher D. Suris has been teaching after-school and recreational chess programs for over 20 years. She is currently the coach of the Rockin' Rooks, an award winning competitive chess team based in Rhinecliff, NY. Her goal is to help her students really learn about chess...and to have fun! She studies and plays diligently, and teaches her students to be kind and to be good sports - as well as savvy chess players.

If you have any questions about this after school series, please contact jess@inness.co.
