Before there were hunters, there were gatherers. Deeply integral to our existence, the basket represents nourishment, community, and caregiving, in essence, motherhood.
On Mother's Day weekend, we invite you to join us in the Catskills for a basket-weaving circle led by Mother and daughter Erin and Peggy Pollard of Underwater Weaving. Guests will be guided to complete a rattan basket. To complete the experience, we'll arrange wildflowers from the sweeping landscape and enjoy convivial delights from the farmhouse kitchen. Anyone who identifies as a mother of any kind is welcome!
$212 per participant. Tickets are available through the facilitators website.
All guests must park their cars in the main lot at the top of the hill, near the restaurant and venture down the hill by foot or request a ride from the front desk staff. Please reach out to Marcy at membership@inness.co if any questions come up.
More about the instructor: Underwater Weaving is a basket atelier, creative weaving studio and community. We make hand woven, one-of-a-kind contemporary baskets for the trade, retail and private commission. Through group weaving gatherings we endeavor to revive the craft of basketry, encourage creative freedom, and offer access to mediation through hand-mind connectivity and craft.
Founder and Creative Director Erin Pollard learned to make baskets as a child observing her mother growing up in Maine. However, Erin's basket practice didn't begin until 40, as a creative outlet when her son found a bundle of reed under the bed. As Erin began sharing her woven art, it became clear that many others were seeking an antidote to modern day ennui; a way to reclaim their hands.
