Chess coach and teacher D. Suris has been teaching after-school and recreational chess programs for over 20 years. She is currently the coach of the Rockin' Rooks, an award winning competitive chess team based in Rhinecliff, NY. Her goal is to help her students really learn about chess...and to have fun! She studies and plays diligently, and teaches her students to be kind and to be good sports - as well as savvy chess players.
Chess Club is open to children 6-15 years old who are familiar with the chess pieces and know how to move them. They will learn how to open correctly, control the center of the board, castle, and get a checkmate. We want this to be super fun, but also an opportunity to learn something! Students must be able to maintain focus and remain seated for a chess class. If a student is being disruptive, they will receive two fair warnings before the parent is asked to pick up their child. We want to give all participants the best possible environment to learn from this class experience.
Space is limited, and RSVP is required. Cancellations must be made through the member portal at least 24 hours in advance in order to qualify for a refund.
